Summer 2024 Teach & Grow Program

The number of applicants for summer Intern and Agent positions is higher than ever this year, by far, because many students who would normally go to college in Port Au Prince are instead attending the university in Les Cayes. They are part of the migration from Port au Prince, which has resulted in an additional 6 to 10 people living with each family in the outlying areas of Haiti. Farm productivity is more important than ever.

Etienne’s summer program begins this week, with 200 interns and 5 agents. Under his supervision, 5 Agronomists employed as Agents, with 200 Student Intern volunteers assisting them, will train and assist farmers with land prep and preservation; planting, tending, and harvesting crops; and livestock health and husbandry. Last summer, with just 1/4 the number of interns, almost 3000 animals were treated through their pop-up clinics, so imagine what they will do this year! The 3-month salaries for all 5 agents total $4500. The interns are each charged $200 by the university for their participation in the program. We are requesting donations to cover $50 of that fee for every student intern ($10,000), for a total program cost of $14,500.
