More Goats than Ever!
Etienne is increasing the size and reach of the goat program, starting now. The security situation in Haiti has made jobs, food, fuel, and all manner of other goods extremely scarce and expensive, even as people formerly living in Port au Prince and other areas of conflict have moved back to the safer areas, including the SW region that we serve. The goal we share with Etienne is to provide training and startup supplies (including goats) to local families so they can produce their own food and income.
We support his plan to include the entire SW coastal area from Port Salud to Les Anglais in this year’s expansion of the goat program. Our goal is to provide breeding stock of 20 does (female goats, or “nanny goats”) and 2 bucks (male goats, or “billy goats”) to each of 10 communities, totaling 200 does and 20 bucks. At $100/doe and $250/buck, that’s $25,000 we need to raise.
