Hurricane Melissa Update – 11/5/2025
Hurricane Melissa’s main winds and center missed Haiti, but the massive storm brought over 8 days of heavy rain, significant storm surge, and high winds. This resulted in the tragic loss of many lives. We are also getting reports of the devastation of crops and livestock, the wiping away of infrastructure (including cell towers, roads, bridges, etc.), the destruction of many homes, businesses, as well as some non-RMI churches, and schools. There are reports of massive flooding of all the rivers. Villages and towns are underwater.
The Les Anglais River was a raging torrent and cut into the town of Les Anglais and the road to Digue. No fatalities have been reported in the town. The damage was mostly confined to the homes, the crops, and the roads and paths. It’s even more difficult now to get get to market and other places people need to go.
Our agronomist Etienne Francois is in Les Anglais today to assess the damage and determine the most urgent needs. We are also working with RMI to provide immediate food assistance to Les Anglais and nearby communities. Haiti Ap Grandi donated funds to buy Food Kits for 20 families. We encourage you also to go to the RMI website to donate food to families in Les Anglais and nearby towns . https://rmibridge.reachapp.co/products/family-food-kit
As Christmas approaches, you’ll hear more from us about our Kids for Kidz goat program and a fundraiser for farm seeds and tools needed for repairing their gardens and replanting the lost crops.
